Tara Slone is the former lead singer of the Juno-nominated rock group Joydrop, known across North America for their hit songs “Beautiful” and “Sometimes Wanna Die”. After making the Top Ten on the hit series Rockstar: INXS, Tara returned to penning and performing her own music. In 2007, she released her first solo disc “Just Look Pretty and Sing”. Tara is also a seasoned actor, having attended Concordia University’s theatre performance program. Tara has appeared in numerous television shows and films, including an appearance opposite Ryan Reynolds in Foolproof, and a recurring role on the popular USA Network show La Femme Nikita. Tara’s eclectic resume and unique perspective led her to the other side of the microphone, becoming one of the most recognizable faces in Toronto entertainment television as the host and producer of the weekly show Inside Jam. Moving to Alberta in 2010, Tara has become one of Calgary’s most trusted on-air personalities, waking up with the city each weekday morning as the co-host of City’s Breakfast Television. Zahra Al Harazi

Zahra Al-Harazi is CEO and Creative Director of Foundry Communications, an internationally awarded marketing and communications studio known for its strategic approach to design. During her career in the marketing and communications industries, Zahra has been awarded multiple accolades, including Calgary’s Top 40 Under 40 (2009), Business In Calgary’s ‘Top 20 Leaders of Tomorrow’ (2010), Canadian Woman Entrepreneur of the Year by Chatelaine (2011), and has been named one of the most powerful women in Canada by the Women’s Executive Network (WXN). Michelle Cameron Coulter is a born and raised Calgarian and grew up in a family of 10 children. She learned about team work, being resourceful and always finding a way very early on. She over came being a very sickly child and her extreme fear of the water to realized her dream and competed in the 1988 Seoul Olympics winning an Olympic Gold Medal in Synchronized Swimming. Michelle is a six time World Champion and swam on the Canadian team for over ten years. She became the first ever Albertan to win a Summer Olympic Gold Medal, and was inducted into Alberta and Canadian Halls of Fame and International Aquatic Sports Hall of Fame. Michelle has also been  awarded the Order of Canada. She has been on the board of directors for many companies and organizations including; Rogers Broadcasting National-also chaired the Calgary Division 12 yrs, Canadian Coaching Association, Alberta Sports Hall of Fame, Special Olympics, Parks Foundation, and Canadian Olympian Alumni. Our special guest for the evening, Sandra Jansen is the Member of the Legislative Assembly  for Calgary North West. Sandra grew up and went to school in North West Calgary. She spent grades seven through nine at Montgomery Junior High and went to high school at William Aberhart. Sandra then went on to earn her Broadcasting Diploma at SAIT and the University of Calgary before travelling to McGill University to complete a degree in French.

Politics has always been a driving force for Sandra, from her first political experience in 1985 when she worked as an assistant press liason for Ron Ghitter in his bid for the leadership of the PC Party to her years hosting political panels and elections. After taking part in an exciting PC leadership campaign as part of the Alison Redford team, Sandra joined the Premier’s team as Southern Alberta communications manager.

Prior to that Sandra spent 23 years working as a journalist, including 10 years as a national news anchor at CTV News Channel in Toronto before coming home to Calgary to complete her Master of Arts in Professional Communications at Royal Roads University.  For more information on Sandra Jansen click here.

Gillian Sinclair practices exclusively in the area of family law at Dunphy Best Blocksom LLP. Gillian joined the firm as an award winning graduate from the University of Calgary, Faculty of Law. Gillian became a partner of the firm in 2008 and is now one of two managing partners.

Gillian has a keen interest in volunteer work, both in the legal realm and in the community generally. Gillian’s volunteer activities have included evaluating students at the Bar Admission course, providing legal advice at the Women’s Centre, mentoring students and junior lawyers with the University of Calgary’s Pro Bono Law Program and Student Legal Services. Gillian’s love of hockey led her to become a Calgary Flames Ambassador, participating in fundraising for the Flames Foundation for Life and other charities. A fitness enthusiast, Gillian was an instructor and consultant for the Banker’s Hall Club, the Glencoe Club, the City of Calgary, the Winter Club, Shell Canada and World Health. Gillian’s fitness interests have expanded to include playing hockey, body boarding and stand up paddle boarding. Gillian was a special guest in the Every Woman Festival Real Women of Calgary Fashion Segment.

 Franca

Franca DeJong emigrated from her native Italy directly to Calgary as a young girl with her parents and two brothers, coming from a poor family she worked hard at an early age to help her family make ends meet. Franca was also scouted by John Casablanca back in the early 80’s to model, she is well known around Calgary as a model with an amazing personality and smile that draws her audience to her. She is always ready to help any young model when a helping hand is needed. Franca has found modeling/photography so much fun that she is still walking the runways of Calgary, and will continue to do so. At 17 she met a young man that is now her husband, Bill, and together they have raised two remarkable young men, Billy and Robert, whom she is proud of, adores and nurtures “Italian Style”. Franca loves her sports and has been active all of her life; she was fortunate enough to represent Calgary in the Alberta Summer Games in track and field, and played for the Calgary Volleyball Club which took her across Canada to play other high calibre teams. She still enjoys daily cardio sessions and doing weights. During the last 12 years Franca has found a new passion, scuba diving, which has taken her all over the world.  In January Franca had the wonderful experience of diving in the Galapagos, and she feels so privileged to have gone to a place that is so unique in the world.  Franca has been active in giving back to her community for over 30 years and has been involved with numerous charities for various causes. Her most recent volunteer efforts have included assisting with the Glenbow Museum’s Schmancy fundraiser event , the Heart and Stroke Foundation , and Love Her ( a fundraiser for ovarian cancer ). In January, 2013,   Franca was awarded the prestigious Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal by the Alberta Lieutenant Governor, which distinction “serves to honour significant contributions and achievements by Canadians” Franca was a special guest in our Real Women of Calgary Fashion Segment.

Marnie Parsons is known in Calgary for being a seasoned presenter and emcee. She is funny, knowledgeable and in tune with her audience, whether it is an audience of 10 or several hundred. Marnie’s sincerity makes her a favorite with her audience whether she is at a formal or relaxed venue. She is very diverse, which has allowed her to effortlessly switch gears between a corporate Oil and Gas audience, to a fun, feminine audience such as her four consecutive years as emcee at the Calgary Woman’s show. She demonstrates her “casual, family fun” approach at the Pet Expo, then her wildly hilarious, sometimes raunchy side at Music Trivia events and the Taboo Show. Her accomplishments on the stage are vast, but she also has an in-depth knowledge of the trade show business, after serving clients in almost every capacity for over 30 years. She has a great understanding of the needs of exhibitors and loves doing ‘Live on Locations’ to help them get exposure at the show.

Carol Bushfield is a born and raised 4th generation Calgarian. Carol is a 43 year old Mom, Wife, Entrepreneur and Pro Fitness Model. She is also the creator and founder of www.itsaclub.com an upcoming website and community. It’s a Club (Custom Lifestyle Ultimate Body) represents a new approach to teaching and inspiring healthy living. Carol believes, healthy living should be about a lifestyle with proper choices and should never be about being on a “diet”. Carol’s deep passion is to inspire women and men of all ages to embrace their health! Get your glow on! Carol was a special guest in the Every Woman Festival Real Women of Calgary Fashion Segment.

Celia Rose

Celia Rose, originally from Alabama, has spent the majority of her music career performing outside the U.S. Over the years, her simple tunes have been transformed through the experiences she has shared with musicians from around the world. In March of 2000, she completed her debut album Celia Rose, produced by Watertown Music. From 2001-2002, Celia lived in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, where she performed regularly with a local jazz band as well as with several well-known Haitian bands such as RAM, Boukman Eksperyans and Strings. During her time in Haiti, her music received airtime from major radio stations and Celia did numerous radio and televised interviews. For more information on Celia, click here.

June Round is CEO of The Namaste World Music Festival & a traditional healer. June lead our Every Woman Festival Calgary interactive activity on the evening. To describe her activity- there are not too many people in the world that have the privilege and honour of wearing strings blessed by the Dalai Lama. On Thursday 21st February in India, the Dalai Lama, officially blessed 200 strings with his compassion and love, in honour of Every Woman Festival. Justine Tyrell, a born and raised Calgarian singer, has had a love for the arts – stemming back to a very early age. Growing up, Justine was always involved in singing, playing various instruments, writing and creating visual pieces of art. Justine’s passion for singing and love for the creative arts, quickly became a serious focus for her, leading to many auditions and competitions, including Canadian Idol in 2006. When Justine is not working hard at music, she enjoys being as creative as possible and working with people. Justine stays busy, as an Event Planner – working primarily in both, corporate planning and weddings and has most recently joined the Rant Pack cast, of Shaw TV’s Calgary Now – a show which highlights and discusses local issues. Justine describes herself as “ a busy artsy-girl, who is always loud and rarely serious, and who has probably the most unusual appetite ever… I think that for anyone who knows me, that would sum it up pretty well!”

Cathy Sproule brings 25 years sports, entertainment and broadcast experience to the planning and production of Xentel entertainment events. Cathy was the first female sportscaster in Western Canada. She creates and produces all game and event day activities, and plans and executes all event media strategies for the Company’s many tours.Educated in broadcast journalism at Mount Royal College, Ms. Sproule is highly regarded for her work as a writer and broadcaster for networks such as CTV, ABC and TSN, and for her coverage of Olympic Games, Olympians and professional sports.

Chantel Hambrook

Chantel Hambrook, Investor Relations, Americas Petrogas Inc.

Chantel Hambrook credits her upbringing to pursue her creative and entrepreneurial desires.  At 12 years old, she was raising money door to door for women’s health care.  At 17, she won Miss Teen Calgary, along with a scholastic award. That year she attended over 200 events representing the city. Chantel then received both her Bachelor of Business Administration and Broadcasting Diploma while attending Mount Royal University. She has been fortunate to travel for both work and pleasure to South America, Europe, and Asia. She currently works in Investor Relations for Americas Petrogas Inc., a junior (TSX listed) international oil and gas company based in Calgary with operations in Argentina and Peru. She is currently focused growth strategies, and effective communication to shareholders.She loves being apart of an industry that always presents new and exciting challenges.  She surrounds herself with very wise and ambitious people who aspire to achieve similar goals.
